PAUL NATHAN PHILLIPS
Of Counsel
Mr. Phillips is Of Counsel in the firm's Business Litigation and Labor and
Employment practice groups. His practice focuses on representing
individual and corporate clients in cases involving employment issues,
wrongful termination and discrimination, trade secret misappropriation and
unfair business practice claims, breach of contract, intellectual property
licenses and fraud. Mr. Phillips also counsels and represents various
California non-profit organizations.
Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Phillips practiced with large firms in Los Angeles
and Sacramento, and held the position of general in-house legal counsel
for an international computer software company. Mr. Phillips also manages
his own solo practice. He has more than 20 years experience as an
attorney concentrating on employment and labor issues, business litigation,
intellectual property, personal injury litigation, civil and criminal trial
defense. In October 1992, he obtained a defense verdict in his first jury
trial on behalf of a local bottling company. Following his first winning
verdict, he was successful in obtaining a defense verdicts in employment
discrimination and breach of contract cases on behalf of a large national
restaurant chain, manufacturer, and car dealerships.
In addition, Mr. Phiilips has second chaired numerous jury trials in state and
federal courts, including the successful defense of two wrongful termination
actions and three fraud actions against software companies. In the winter
of 2007, he was successful in the representation of the family of an elderly
woman in a wrongful death action that resulted in a jury verdict of more
than $1.2m, including punitive damages
Mr. Phillips received his J.D. from Loyola School of Law, with great
distinction, in 1987. While at Loyola, he served on the Loyola Law Journal
and was awarded the American Jurisprudence Award, in addition to an
invitation into the St. Thomas More Law Honor Society
Mr. Phillips is active in the local community, and has made numerous
charitable excursions throughout the United States, Mexico and Central
America. In his spare time, he enjoys athletic training, meditation, golf,
gardening and cooking.
